why not make a contribution to our restoration fund, and at the same time acquire
a limited edition collectors' item , why not buy one of our special covers,
or even the pair? They cost £5 plus 50p P+P each.
When Royal Mail announced that the "Extreme Endeavors" stamp
issue of April 2003 would have Amy Johnson on the second class value (21p),
we engaged Benhams of Folkstone to produce a "silk" panelled
special cover for the First Day of Issue. The illustration used on the
cover was donated to the Project in the form of a fine oil painting by
Frank Munger G.Av.A., a wonderful portrayal of Black Magic in flight which
captures the grace and pace in the lines of this beautiful aircraft. Only
400 of the Standard Covers were printed , and a few of these remain available.
They measure 190x113mm (7.5"x4.5").
When the 70th anniversary of the MacRobertson Race (the Melbourne International
Centenary Air Race) came up on 20th September 2004, we issued our second
Cover to commemorate the occasion, designed by the talented Jayne Brewster-Beard.
We were again fortunate to be able to use a new Frank Munger painting,
this time the scene on the apron at Mildenhall, on the eve of the Race,
when King George V and Queen Mary inspected the entrants and their aircraft
. The Royal party is shown talking to Amy and Jim Mollison.
The use of the wistful portrait of Amy was purchased from the estate of
photographer John Capstack, surely one of her most charming photographs.
The Covers measure 216x104mm (8.5"x4"), and again, only 400
were printed.
Orders should indicate which Cover is required (Amy First Day or Race
70th Anniversary) and marked 'Web Site Order'. Cheques should
be made payable to M.D.S.Stephenson and sent to:-
